Huge superhero news! The crack team of superheroes is coming back — on July 20 the guys behind ‘The Avengers’ officially announced a sequel!
It feels like it’s been way more than just over a year since Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye came together to save the world in 2012′s The Avengers, the superhero movie to end all superhero movies that caused box offices to explode. But on July 20, we finally got our first news about what’s to come in The Avengers series.
‘The Avengers’ Sequel & Release Date Announced
At the end of the panel at Comic-Con, The Avengers writer and director Joss Whedon came out and showed loyal fans a short teaser for the follow-up film titled, Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Joss also let the fans in attendance know that the flick is set to come out on May 1, 2015. Time to get excited everybody!
Comic aficionados will recognize the name Ultron, an Avengers villain who was the subject of a 10-issue arch in the books. Ultron and his legion of Sentinels tried to take over Earth (obviously), but the best team of superheroes ever assembled definitely had something to say about that.
There is no word yet on who will play Ultron. That will be the next big announcement — Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was such a great foe for the Avengers in the first movie, so the sequel’s villain has a whole lot to live up to.
But the important thing is we can finally mark our calendars and start the countdown. May 2015 is a long ways away, but we can just watch The Avengers a bajillion times more until then!
